HARMAN AND KUN LAN'S CHESS GAME (1)



in this scene, kun lan relates a story about an angel that convinces an otherwise
good and upstanding young man to kill his mother, the story being about harman and kun lan themselves.
hand in killer 7 states that kun lan is a reincarnation of the demon, mara, a malevolent being who tries to stop
the buddha from reaching enlightenment. western viewers might more readily associate kun lans story with the biblical tale
of eve and the snake. many cultures seem to have some variation of the "temptation" archetype.

more broadly, kun lan and harman represent the dichotomy of terrorism vs the state.
their ongoing chess game is a manifestation of this power struggle.
as with all things killer7, the level of reality at play at any given moment is up for debate;
the cutscene taking place inside the locked room of garcian's trailer seems to indicate that the interaction
is occuring within garcian's subconcious.
garcian watches their game, silently, and when the two notice him, they are startled and begin to convulse.
garcian is a pawn, but maybe on some level they fear him.

the room in which they play is lavishly furnished compared to the rest of garcians trailer,
especially in contrast with harmans room. there are high, open windows with light streaming in,
lots of plants, and a pair of black loveseats facing eachother.

HARMAN AND KUN LAN'S CHESS GAME (2)

here, harman and kun lan speak to an unknown person off camera. after a brief exchange, in which the off camera person says nothing,
the two are gunned down. the mystery assailant could be one of two people:

YOUNG HARMAN
1) kun lan and harman are struck down by a spray of bullets, suggesting they were killed
by an automatic gun, which is young harmans signature weapon
2) kun lan says that time in the forbidden room is warped, so a younger versuib of harman might be able to manifest here

EMIR
1) garcian is the one that initially enters the room
2) the twisted nature of time within the room could mean that garcian appears as his younger self, emir
